My New Journey
Today in went to my 5th Weight Watchers meeting. I have officially lost 10.5 pounds. This is the beginning of a long journey to lose more than half of my body weight and finally, after too many years of struggle, make it to a healthy weight and body mass index.

My first challenge is that I am going to see Adam Lambert on NYE in Oklahoma. I'm do totally stoked about that, I can't begin to tell you. After several years of watching all of my Glambert friends travel all over the country to see Adam, while stayed at home paying bills and living vicariously, I'm getting to go with some oft friends to see him. Don't misunderstand me, I don't begrudge any of my friends their adventures to see Adam, most recently in Las Vegas with Queen. I'm delighted that they've gotten to have so many awesome experiences. I'm just happy that this time I get to go too.

Which brings me to my challenge. I want to lose another 40 pounds by NYE. I'm gonna have to bust my butt (literally) to do this, but I'm on a mission! I'll post here weekly on my progress. TTFN!

It’s been decided. On October 20th, 2010, we will wear purple in honor of the 6 gay boys who committed suicide in recent weeks/months due to homophobic abuse in their homes at at their schools. Purple represents Spirit on the LGBTQ flag and that’s exactly what we’d like all of you to have with you: spirit. Please know that times will get better and that you will meet people who will love you and respect you for who you are, no matter your sexuality. Please wear purple on October 20th. Tell your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors and schools.

My Favorite Things-The Short List

My Favorite Things-The Short List

As I was driving home from work today, I reflected on the little (and big) things in life that make me smile, make me happy and sometimes, turn me to mush. This is the Short List.

1.    The feeling of walking barefoot in the grass

2.    My puppies when they cuddle

3.    Butterflies, dragonflies and hummingbirds on my butterfly bush

4.    My BFF and his husband, who’ve shown me that it is possible to love someone forever

5.    My new BFF, my Leetle Duckling, who’s shown me that sometimes a connection is instantaneous

6.    The Grand Canyon at sunset

7.    Death Valley at sunrise, in bloom

8.    Anytime I get to sit on the dock in Door County

9.    Crazy, wicked thunderstorms

10. Fresh tomatoes from my garden

11. Cooking, especially with veggies from my garden

12. The smell of applesauce cooking

13. Campfires and marshmallows (and s’mores too!)

14. Burning leaves in the fall

15. Hiking and rock-climbing in Devil’s Lake

16. Driving with the top down

17. Adam Lambert

18. Madame Butterfly

19. The great voices of all time, Enrique Caruso, Kiri Te-Kanawa, Renee Fleming, Adam Lambert, Bessie Smith, Louie Armstrong

20. Tyler, who still thinks of me as his hero. Won’t be long before my feet turn to clay in his eyes.

21. Sunsets-anywhere

22. Rainbows, especially double rainbows

23. Walking in the rain

24. The crunchy sound that snow makes when you walk across it

25. Music-pretty much any kind, but especially a song that breaks my heart and leaves my guts on the floor because it is sung so beautifully

There’s more, I did say this was the short list. But I have a great big grin on my face just from writing this down. So there!

So, I have been trying to find a Kradam fic that was multi-chaptered. I cannot remember the name of the fic or the author, so I was hoping someone would come to my rescue. The premise is Adam is also a performer on the London stage named Eve, Kris goes to see one of his performances and becomes entranced. Adam is then relocated by Simon, who is planning to take Adam away on the maiden voyage of the Titanic (which Kris's father owns) and Kris hatches a plot to save Adam during that maiden voyage. If someone could link me to this story, I would be forever grateful!!

Thought for the Day

A ship is safe in harbor, but that’s not what ships are for.  –William Shedd

I grew up on the father bought his first sailboat when I was 3 years old. I do not remember a time that I didn't find happiness, joy and wonder on or around water. Lakes, oceans, streams, ponds; they are all places where I go when I am stuggling, sad, or confused. The sounds, the color, just the constant movement brings peace to my soul. So when I found this quote by William Shedd, it totally resonated with me. Ships are meant to be out on the water, doing their  "shippy" things, moving cargo, people to their destinations. I am not meant to stay safe in my own "harbor". I am meant to go out in the world, make a difference, change lives, make them better. I am striving for that today. To make a difference in the life of one person. To change a bad thing to good, to bring hope or joy or happiness in some small way to someone, whether I know them or not.

Don't stay safe in your harbor today. Go out, move some cargo, bring some joy to your own world.

OK, I know this is silly, but it does have a point....

Today's Inspiration

It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare, it is because we do not dare that they are difficult. - Seneca

Today's Inspiration

"Life is a great big canvas, and you should throw all the paint you can on it." - Danny Kaye

I feel like painting rainbows and sunsets and blooming flowers today! What colors will you use to paint your day?

Thoughts of the Day
So, I had planned to post something inspiring every day...and then life decided to get in the way. Not very inspiring, eh? I'm back on track, planning to get these things posted daily. So, here's a few quotes that I hope provoke thoughtful reflection.

Joy can be real only if people look on their life as a service, and have a definite object in life outside themselves and their personal happiness.
- Leo Nikolaevich Tolstoy

You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.
       - Eleanor Roosevelt

Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.
       - Ambrose Redmoon

Know that although in the eternal scheme of things you are small, you are also unique and irreplaceable, as are all your fellow humans everywhere in the world.
       - Margaret Laurence

A generous heart, kind speech, and a life of service and compassion are the things which renew humanity.
       - Buddha, Indian mystic and founder of Buddhism

And my favorite for the day....

There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.
       - Elie Wiesel

Elie Wiesel was a Holocaust survivor and wrote a book called "Night". It is one of the most beautiful, awful, powerful and moving books I have ever read. It is a difficult read, but I highly recommend reading it, if only to come to a small understanding of what really took place during the Holocaust. I believe that we should never forget and I believe even more in the last words of his quote: "there must never be a time when we fail to protest." Where there is injustice, let us roar!

Thought for the Day!
Today I am quoting one of my very favorite authors, his books inpsired me as a young, awkward teen, commonly called "freak" and "weird" in school. My escape then was science fiction, and Arthur C. Clarke wrote some of the best, novels and short stories alike. One of my very favorites of his, "The Nine Billion Names of God" sent shivers up my spine and to this day, still causes me to wonder and reflect.

The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.
Arthur C. Clarke

In other news, I get to go to the dentist today to deal with a broken tooth. I was attacked by a frozen Snickers bar last night. Snickers 1, tooth 0. Can't wait. I truly despise and hate going to the dentist.
